Accusing Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of trying to deceive the people of Kakinada by making false promises, Leader of the Opposition Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Sunday wondered why the TDP government failed to fulfil any of its promise made to the public during the general elections.

“The TDP had promised complete loan waiver to the farmers and members of the women self-help groups, and one job each to all the households. The government on the one hand did not fulfil the promises and on the other removed the welfare schemes one by one and levied taxes on the common man in one name or the other,” he said while addressing a public meeting here as part of campaigning for the YSRCP candidates contesting the KMC election. Mr. Jagan arrived in the city in the morning and took part in the road shows till evening.

Calling upon the public not to cast their vote to the TDP, he said there was hardly any reason to support the ruling party.

“You have voted the party to power with a hope that it would change your lives. Is there any improvement in your living conditions in the last three years?” he asked the crowd at Annamma Ghati centre.

“In the last three years, there is a steep hike in the power tariff. In fact, ours is the highest power tariff in the country and It was followed by an increase in municipal taxes. The free education and medical care schemes faded away and the ‘108’ ambulance service is on the verge of closure,” he said, asking the people whether it was called welfare.

Accusing Mr. Naidu of believing in false promises, Mr. Jagan demanded that the Chief Minister speak first about his pending promises before announcing the new ones.

“Even after being declared as ‘smart city’ by the Central government, this city lacks development. The roads are in a bad shape and people are complaining of absence of civic amenities. Instead of focusing on the basic issues, Mr. Naidu is promising you new port and university,” he saidUrging the people to teach a fitting lesson to the State government in the KMC elections, Mr. Jagan exuded confidence that the YSRCP would win the municipal elections and the general elections as well, and provide fair governance to the public. Party senior leaders and contesting candidates accompanied him.
