The protests on the controversial ’Free Zone’ issue entered the third day today with as many as 30 ABVP activists taken into custody for allegedly trying to storm the Raj Bhavan here, police said.

The activists were taken into custody near the Khairtabad cross roads when they tried to march towards the Raj Bhavan.

The Telangana leaders of different political parties and Osmania University Students Joint Action Committee (OUSJAC) have been demanding that the written exams for Sub-Inspectors posts in Hyderabad City Zone be postponed till Presidential Order treating Hyderabad as ‘Free Zone’ is amended as per resolution passed by the state Assembly.

They also wanted the government to start recruitment for SI posts only after deletion of 14 (F) clause in the Order to prevent alleged injustice to Telangana candidates.

The OUSJAC had tried to take out a rally towards the State Secretariat besides making unsuccessful bid to storm the residences of Union Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy and State Home Minister Sabita Indra Reddy yesterday.

Police also foiled attempts of OUSJAC and pro-Telangana activists who tried to barge into the DGP office here on Monday, they said.

Meanwhile, the indefinite fast undertaken by seven OUSJAC supporters at the OU Camps here entered sixth day, with reports saying the condition of three of these students has deteriorated.
