Four held for bike theft in Chittoor

Their modus operandi was to lift the bike, change its name plate and sell it at a throwaway price

The Chittoor district police on Friday morning arrested four persons from three different locations and seized as many as 41 motorcycles they had stolen from various places including Bangarupalem, Gangavaram, Palamaner and Panjani.

According to police, motorcycle thefts have been on the rise for the past four months in the four mandals. Following complaints from people, four special parties were formed to nab the culprits.

The four accused, in the age group of 25 to 30, are residents of villages in and around Palamaner. Their modus operandi was to lift the bike, change its name plate and sell it at a throwaway price to gullible people. After verifying several cases of false registration, the accused were taken into custody. Two were held near Gangavaram, one at Bangarupalem and another near the Karnataka border. A case was registered, and further investigation is on.
