July 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:58 am IST - MYSURU:

The police are on a hunt for Timothy John, a U.S. national, who is absconding after a case of forgery and cheating was booked against him in Ramanahalli near here. Mysuru taluk tahsildar Naveen Joseph, who has lodged a complaint , told The Hindu that John, who possesses a U.S. passport valid from 2007 to 2017, had allegedly purchased 1.54 acres of farm land in Ramanahalli after furnishing forged documents.

Though the accused, born and brought up in Mysuru before becoming a U.S. citizen, also possesses an Overseas Citizenship of India certificate, the Reserve Bank of India rules bar such persons from purchasing farm land in India, Mr. Joseph said.
