South Central Railway, which has developed a foldable ramp and a wheelchair for the convenience of differently-abled passengers, will launch the facility from January 18 on Train No.12747 Guntur-Vikarabad Palnadu Express, according to a release on Saturday.

“Passengers can seek the assistance of wheelchair by approaching the Station Master on duty and ask for a wheelchair with seat access. They will have to mention their alighting station so that the information is passed on to the station concerned and the guard. The on-board house keeping staff on the train will assist passengers to alight at the particular station. The facility is available at nominal charges,” said the release.

The foldable wheelchair is light in weight, user-friendly and manoeuvrable, which will help the passengers to move easily along the aisle and reach their seat. The carrying capacity of the wheelchair is 100 kg.

Wheelchairs are provided in all the stations of the zone to facilitate needy passengers boarding and de-boarding the trains.
