Floods: officials asked to evacuate people

The Collectors of Nalgonda, Krishna, Guntur, Mahabubnagar and Kurnool were instructed to evacuate people on the downstream of Nagarjunasagar dam with the reservoir almost reaching the Full Reservoir Level (587 ft against 590 ft) on Wednesday evening.

Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy reviewed the flood situation in various districts as also the water levels in reservoirs.

He directed the officials to closely monitor the levels and ensure that water was released to the canals for cultivation by regulating at the field level.

According to a release from the Chief Minister’s Office, Tungabhadra, Jurala, Srisailam, Nagarjunasagar, Sriramsagar, Lower Maneru Dam, Velugodu Balancing reservoir, Singur and Yeleru were at FRL, except Somasila and Kandaleru of Penna basin which were also expected to be full soon. Relief camps were set up in Khammam, East Godavari, West Godavari, Warangal, Karimnagar and Adilabad districts. National Disaster Response Force teams were deployed for rescue and relief operations.
