High alert has been sounded in both Vizianagaram and Srikakulam with possible floods in several areas of the districts following heavy inflows into reservoirs.
Though the situation is still under control, the officials took extra care by setting up control rooms at the Collectorates.
Vizianagaram Collector Vivek Yadav told The Hindu that there was no threat to any village so far and revenue officials were asked to evacuate people wherever it was necessary.
Srikakulam Collector P. Lakshmi Narasimham is monitoring the situation and asked officials to arrange supply of essential commodities in the villages which are likely to be affected.
Fortunately, weather was clear in both districts.
Vamsadhara officials released almost 50,000 cusecs of water from Gotta barrage and around 55,000 cusecs were released from Madduvalasa reservoir.
Meanwhile, water has steadily increased in the Nagavali river in Srikakulam town.
According to officials, special teams have been formed to monitor the situation in Bhamini, Kotturu, Hiramandalam and other areas.
