A day after Telangana State Police Academy Deputy Director S.M. Ratna was assaulted and robbed off her gold jewellery on board the Simhapuri Express in the Guntur-Nellore stretch; the police have formed five special teams to nab the culprit.

As part of the security beef-up, the special teams have launched search operations in Chittoor, Nellore and Ongole areas and are looking for clues pertaining to the crime.

The police, in association with the railway officials, on Sunday checked the records of offenders caught in the past on charges of committing such crimes on moving trains between Bapatla in Guntur district and Sullurupeta in Nellore district.

Meanwhile, Guntur Range IG M. Sanjay and Nellore SP Gajarao Bhupal called on Ms. Ratna who is undergoing treatment at the Apollo Speciality Hospitals here.

They interacted with her family members too. It is learnt that Ms. Ratna has been a frequent traveller between Secunderabad and Chennai as her brother lives in the capital of the neighbouring State. A native of Sullurupeta located in the AP-Tamil Nadu border area, Ms. Ratna was travelling to Chennai on Saturday to attend a private function when the robbery took place.
