First woman SP for urban police district

B. Rajakumari, working as Commandant of APSP 6th Battalion at Mangalagiri took charge as Rajamahendravaram Urban police district superintendent on Monday. She is the first woman SP after urban police district was formed in August 2010 and Mr. P. Umapathy was the first SP.

Speaking to media persons after assuming charge, Ms. Rajakumari said that she would concentrate on preventing crime against women, white collar offences and visible policing. She said that first she has to get acquainted with local conditions and then concentrate on law and order situation in the urban area as she worked more in rural areas till now.

Ms. Rajakumari belongs to 2006 IPS batch. She worked as trainee assistant SP in Nalgonda and then as Nuzvid ASP and additional SP of Nizamabad. She came to Mangalagiri in March 2015.

She said that people can contact her at any time and on every Monday she will receive complaints.

Answering a query, the SP said that collective effort was needed to regularise traffic in old cities like Rajamahendravaram and visible policing would instil confidence among people.

Ms. Rajakumari worked as in-charge of Kotilingala Ghat during the Godavari Pushkarams.
