Fervour marks Adisankara jayanti fete

The birth anniversary of Adisankaracharya was celebrated with traditional enthusiasm and religious fervour on the auspicious Shukla Paksha Vaisakha Panchami day on Wednesday.

The celebrations started with ‘Pallaki seva’ held under the auspices of cultural organisation Gyana Sindhu. Chanting of ‘Jaya Jaya Shankara’, ‘Harahara Shankara’ rented the air during the grand ‘Nagarotsavam’ held amid chanting of Vedic hynmns. Nadaswaram recital by Shaik Ghalib and his troupe hogged the limelight.

Kanakadhara Stotram, 21 hymns written by Adishankaracharya hailing goddess of wealth Mahalakshmi was recited en masse by devotees, including a large number of women.

Swami Satyatmananda of Chinmaya Mission led the scholars including M. Subramanya Sharma, Neelamraju Parthasarathy and N. Sitaramamurthy gave lectures on the life and teachings of the spirtual guru, who expounded the Advaita philosophy. A community feast was organised on the occasion, said Gyana Sindhu founder president P. Ramachandramurthy.

The birth anniversary celebrations of Adi Shankaracharya were organised at various temples including Sri Durga Malleswara Swamyvarla Devasthanam, Sri Bhramaramba Malleswara Swamyvarla Devasthanam (Old Sivalayam) here. Abhishekams and special poojas were performed to Adi Sankaracharya idols at the temples.

Old Sivalayam temple main priest Rachakonda Sumanthu Sarma performed special poojas to Adi Sankaracharya idol in the temple. Temple Executive Officer K.N.V.D.V. Prasad, temple priest Jayanthi Satyavaraprasad, Abhisehka pandit Palli Ramasubrahmanyam, and Ayyappa temple priest K. Muralidhara Namboodri were present. The temple distributed mangoes, hand fans, vadapappu and panakam on the occasion.
