Farm power connections to be sanctioned in phases

Issues pertaining to agriculture power connections, loan waiver and functioning of primary health centres in rural areas were discussed prominently at the Zilla Parishad general body meeting here on Thursday. The members expressed concern over the delay in sanctioning of the new electricity connections in farm sector. Some of the members said that the Transco officials were not available for receiving representations from them.

The meeting presided by ZP Chairman M. Rajasekhar was attended by Deputy Chief Minister K.E. Krishna Murthy and members of Legislative Council and Assembly. The meeting also

debated the health care system which was in doldrums in rural areas. Mr. Krishna Murthy said that 5,24,227 farmers has been identified for debt relief scheme in the district, which needed Rs 3,000 crore. He said that ineligible beneficiaries would be screened within a few days and the scheme would take off soon.

He said that 12,000 farmers were waiting for power connections which would be sanctioned in a phased manner, adding that NTR Sujala Sravanti scheme would be launched on October 2 in fluoride-hit villages in the first phase.

MLC Geyanand drew the attention of the forum to the appalling sanitary conditions in many schools.
