Farm loans of Rs. 3,500 cr. to be waived in second phase

The government will waive farmers’ loans of up to Rs.3,500 crore in the second phase, Minister for Labour and district in charge K. Atchannaidu has said.

Teams comprising public representatives, members of the Janmabhoomi Committees, and officials would hand over loan waiver letters to the farmers, the Minister told the media here on Sunday.

The teams would also identify eligible farmers whose loans were yet to be waived, he said, and added that loans of farmers of up to Rs. 7,600 crore had been waived during the first phase. The Minister promised to convene a review meeting to direct bankers to sanction fresh loans to the farmers for the kharif season. He further said that the government had spent substantial funds on ‘Neeru-Pragathi’ and ensured smooth and timely distribution of seed. Fertilizers were ready for distribution, he added.

The Minister also said that the government would distribute ‘Ramzan tohfa’ to Muslims.
