Former Minister and senior leader of the Telugu Desam Party Muddasani Damodar Reddy (56) died of prolonged illness at the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences here on Monday. He is survived by wife and a son.

Hailing from Mamidipally village of Veenavanka mandal in Karimnagar, Damodar Reddy was elected five times as MLA from Kamalapur constituency and was in the Cabinets of NTR and N. Chandrababu Naidu. Mr. Reddy was associated with the TDP since its formation and grew from an ordinary party worker to become district president and Minister.

A staunch supporter of NTR, he was associated with him when he was toppled from power in 1995. After NTR's death in 1996, he remained silent for some time and later joined the party under Naidu's leadership.

Mr. Naidu and Finance Minister A. Ramnarayan Reddy expressed sorrow over the demise of Mr. Reddy and conveyed condolences to the bereaved family members. The last rites will be performed in his native Mamidalapalli on Tuesday.
