Election to Yellur MPTC stayed

April 02, 2014 09:08 pm | Updated May 21, 2016 07:47 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Justice Ramesh Ranganathan of the High Court on Wednesday stayed the election to the Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) of Yellur in Mahbubnagar district.

Some gram panchayats under Yellur were merged with the Kolluru Nagar Panchayat and later excluded. The exclusion was challenged in court earlier and status quo ordered. Now the election to the MPTC was sought to be conducted.

The current writ petition was filed contending that the status quo order means that the village area continues to be part of the nagar panchayat, hence the election to the MPTC was not proper. The judge stayed the election process and directed that the votes in these polls may not be counted for the ZPTC too.
