Eight YSRC MLAs suspended

March 20, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - Hyderabad:

Eight YSR Congress (YSRC) MLAs were suspended from the Legislative Assembly on Thursday for three days up to March 23 when they stormed the well of the House protesting denial of the microphone to their leader Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, to speak.

The YSRC members trooped into the well several times seeking more time for Mr. Reddy to speak while Speaker Kodela Sivaprasad Rao refused saying that he had been given enough time already. As the din continued, the Speaker adjourned the House. When it reassembled an hour later, the ruckus continued forcing Legislative Affairs Minister Y. Ramakrishnudu, to move a motion seeking suspension of eight MLAs for three days.

The Speaker announced suspension of -- G. Srikanth Reddy, Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy, G. Mutyala Naidu, Chirla Jaggireddy, P. Ramakrishna Reddy, Shivaprasad Reddy, Kodali Nani and Shaikh Chand Basha. Marshals had a tough time in physically lifting the suspended members as there was intense jostling. The YSRC members accused the Speaker of being a ‘factionist’.

Butchaiah Chowdhary (TDP) criticised the intemperate language used by YSRCP member Roja and wanted her to be suspended for a year. Mr. Ramakrishnudu took exception to the actions of the YSRC members and said never in the history of legislature such unruly behaviour was seen.

After eviction of his party colleagues, Mr. Reddy wanted to continue his speech, but the Speaker refused resulting in him walking out. Later, a YSRC delegation called on Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan and lodged protest against the ‘unfair’ suspension.
