Eight students hurt as drunk driver rams school bus into truck

Students, with broken teeth and bleeding injuries, rushed to hospital

Eight students of a private school in Singarayakonda were injured when their school -bus rammed a stationary lorry near K .Bitragunta on the arterial Chennai-Kolkata national highway on Friday.

“'The driver , Sk. Razul (30) was in an inebriated condition when he was bringing students from K. Bitragunta to their school,” Singrayakonda Circle Inspector T. Ashok Vardhan said .

The injured students, with broken teeth and bleeding injuries, were rushed to a private hospital here. Razool, whose leg was fractured, was admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences.

Agitated parents demanded stringent action against the driver and the school when Deputy Commissioner of Police P. Jashua visited the hospital. Blood samples of the driver were taken to ascertain the alcohol content, the DSP added.

The front portion of the bus, carrying 15 students, was completely damaged. Students in the rear seats escaped unhurt.

The driver has been working in the school for four years, Jarugumalli Sub-inspector Sk.Shawali said.

A case was registered under Section 337.
