Eight persons were arrested in connection with murder of a 22-year-old youth, whose body was found floating in Naguleru canal at Pamarru village in the Krishna district recently.

Superintendent of Police Sarvashresh Tripathi on Monday arrested the eight accused, including a gang of henchmen, involved in the murder by accepting ₹3 lakh. The deceased was identified as K. Chaitanya Krishna belonging to Kamma Kuchilipadu village in Movva mandal in Krishna district. The accused on Monday confessed to their crime before the police. The accused have been identified as D. Satya Varaprasad, D. Bharath Raju, J. Srinivas, P. Rahul, K. Sampath Kumar, B. Durga Prasad, V. Koteswara Rao and P. Ranjith Kumar.

“Dispute over land promised during the marriage of the deceased’s sister is the prime reason behind the murder plot,” said Mr. Tripathi. According to him, in early 2002, D. Bharath Raju married Ms. Bhavani Raghava, elder sister of the deceased. They had a son. Bharat Raju later demanded two acres of land which was promised during the wedding. The couple used to argue on the issue.

Meanwhile, Ms. Bhavani had committed suicide by consuming poison in April 2017. The elders hushed up the matter and convinced Bharat Raju to register three acres of land in the name of his son. However, he failed to do so leading to a dispute with Chaitanya Krishna

Murder plot

One of the accused had created an account on a social networking site and came into contact with the deceased, pretending to be a girl. On July 3, Chaitanya Krishna was invited by the accused to visit Hamsaladeevi beach through the social networking site. The deceased had accepted the invitation and was received by the other accused in Vijayawada.

When they reached Goshala village by car, the accused killed Chaitanya Krishna by beating him with iron rods and threw his body into the canal.
