: Judge, High Court of Judicature, AP and Telangana, Justice Ramesh Ranganathan has said that all efforts should be made to reform juveniles initiated into crime at an early stage lest there was a danger of them turning into hardened criminals.
Addressing a State convention on the Juvenile Justice Act at Acharya Nagarjuna University on Sunday, Justice Ranganthan said that the condition of most juvenile homes in the State was far from satisfactory and added that complete overhaul of the existing structure of Juvenile Homes was necessary.
“Every effort should be made to create awareness on the Juvenile Justice Act right from the school level. Senior police officers should adopt streetchildren and NGOs should take an active role in correction of these children,’’ the Judge said. The workshop coordinated by State CID Department saw judges and senior police officers from across the State taking part. Director-General of Police (in charge) R.P Thakur said the dealing with juveniles was a sensitive one and calls for extreme care.
Principal Home Secretary Manmohan Singh said that infrastructure in juvenile homes should be improved across the State.
