The YSR Congress has requested the Election Commission to reconsider its decision to conduct re-polling in three polling stations of Jammalamadugu Assembly segment and Kadapa Lok Sabha constituency on May 13.
In a representation made to the Chief Electoral Officer here with a copy sent to the EC on Sunday, party leader P.N.V. Prasad said there was no reason, whatsoever, to order re-polling in polling stations 80, 81 and 82 at Devagudi village in the Assembly/parliamentary constituency.
The EC authorities had taken the decision for re-polling without any report submitted by a competent authority on the objections of polling agents of rival parties.
Besides, there was neither any untoward incident that took place there nor any complaint by the polling officer or sector officer or micro-observer.
Mockery of democracyOrdering re-polling by the EC based on a report submitted by the local police would amount to a mockery of democracy, the YSR Congress leader said.
The party’s candidate for Jammalamadugu Assembly seat, C. Adinarayana Reddy, had requested the District Election Officer (DEO) and the Returning Officer of Jammalamadugu segment to furnish copies of extracts of the polling officer’s diary, report of returning officer, recommendations of DEO and District Collector, report of micro observer if any and the report of the election observer so that they could take legal recourse in the larger interest of justice but in vain, Mr. Prasad said.
He urged the EC to direct the concerned authorities to furnish the copies of the reports to the contesting candidate.
