Doubts over efficacy of new excise policy

Even as the State government proposes to take over retail liquor trade by unveiling a new liquor policy from July 1 to mop up more revenue and curtail belt shops, not many in the government are convinced that it will work. Excise Minister Kollu Ravindra announced recently that the government is firm on bringing a new liquor policy soon. But, many see it as a political decision to provide employment to party sympathisers to man these retail shops for a salary which may well end up as a money making opportunity.
