The Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) will be embarking on an intensive door to door programme to elucidate denizens about various aspects of household waste segregation, as a part of the envisaged ‘Swachh Tirupati’ campaign.
Equipped with pamphlets and dustbins (red and green containers for dry and wet waste respectively), municipal officials, accompanied by members of Self Help Groups (SHGs) and other volunteers, will cover more than 8,400 houses in five model wards in the first phase of the programme, beginning from Wednesday.
Speaking to The Hindu , Sanitary Inspector V. Chenchaiah said that the officials would cover every household and establishment falling under the ward limits, earmarked for the programme, and explain the importance of sorting out household waste.
Mr. Chenchaiah said the denizens would be provided with two separate bins – red for dry waste and green for wet waste, to make the collection process easier for the municipal workers. Wards 18, 23, 37, 40 and 41 have been selected under the first phase of the campaign. Based on the response, officials will pin point on the steps to be taken to cover the remaining 45 wards in the temple city.
