Doctor among five killed in two road accidents

A doctor was among five killed in two road accidents in Nellore and East Godavari districts in the early hours of Sunday.

In Nellore district, Dr. Bhavani, 45, belonging to Guntur district, was among two persons killed when the van in which they were travelling hit a truck near DV Satram on the National Highway 16.

The accident occurred when Dr. Bhavani was travelling along with her husband Dr. Sesha Rao from Guntur to Ponneri town in Tamil Nadu. Driver Naresh, 31, was also killed in the incident.

According to information, the accident might have taken place when the driver dozed off and hit the truck from behind at a high speed. Two others were badly injured in the accident and they were shifted to the Naidupeta town hospital nearby in a 108 ambulance.

In East Godavari district, three persons were killed when the motorcycle on which they were riding hit a stranded tractor on the National Highway at Jaggampeta. The victims were identified as Pragadapu Srihari of Dondapudi village in Polavaram mandal of West Godavari district and Durga Rao and Sai of Pragadapalli village of the same mandal.

The accident took place when the trio was on its way to Tuni from Rajamahendravaram.

The motorcycle hit a timber loaded tractor parked on the roadside, killing the trio on the spot.

The bodies were being shifted to the area hospital at Peddapuram for post-mortem.

The Jaggampeta police are investigating the case.
