In tune with the aspirations of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to revive, develop and beautify 100 water bodies in and around the temple city, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) and the district administration have agreed to prepare a roadmap for the project by April 5.

It may be recalled that Mr. Naidu had announced to develop Tirupati as a ‘City of Lakes’ by reviving the water bodies with the three-pronged strategy to save them from encroachment, recharge ground water and finally offer an enchanting ambience to the visiting pilgrims.

The crucial meeting attended by TTD executive officer D. Sambasiva Rao, Collector Siddharth Jain and other senior officials on Tuesday discussed threadbare the essentials needed to take the prestigious project forward, while consciously skipping the contentious ‘financial aspect’ that could rock the discussion in its initial stage hit a roadblock.

Dr. Rao directed his officials to take up the works on priority basis by identifying the tanks with minimal encumbrances in the form of encroachments. He indicated that the ‘Rayalacheruvu’ located to the south of the city be developed at its best.

Mr. Jain also instructed the district water works officials to prepare an action plan and indicated all the user departments, viz., TTD, MCT, TUDA, Forest, Irrigation and Tourism to work in tandem and make their respective roles clear. After the roles are clearly demarcated, the designing work will be handed over to a consultant.
