D. Ranagiri Usha, Principal of the Annavaram Satyavathi Devi Government Degree College, on Wednesday said teenage was crucial for the girls and they should focus more on learning new things and developing a positive attitude.

Girls should be cautious about their dressing, diction and deportment, she said participating as the chief guest at the International Women’s Day celebrations at the Pithapuram Rajah Government Degree College here.

Ms. Usha said respect could be commanded through the attire and attitude and the teenagers should be aware of the fact that their body language spoke a lot about their mind.

D. Sailaja, associate professor from the Rangaraya Medical College, highlighted the need for making better use of the decision-making power by women and girls. Though women were able to get higher positions in politics and corporate world, most of them were unable to take a decision on their own.

“There is a need to break some stereotypes and tell ourselves that we are no way inferior to men,” she said. It was time for the girls to grab the available opportunities and make a mark. “You should render justice to the role of being a mother and make your children complete citizens,” she said.

Advocate P. Mangadevi expressed concern over the increased rate of cases of divorce and advised the girls to be very cautious while taking crucial decisions in life such as marriage. “Do not drag the issues too much and try to resolve them with a dialogue with your partner,” she said.

College Principal C. Krishna presided over the meeting. Prizes were presented to winners of competitions conducted by the college to mark the day.
