: Rajamahendrvaram MLA Akula Satyanarayana on Thursday said that the demolition of the historical Gouthami Regional Library building would begin on Friday. He would write to the government regarding auction of old furniture and construction of the new building. To ensure transparency, public auction should be conducted. Dr. Satyanarayana thanked MP M. Muralimohan for sanctioning Rs. 75 lakh for the purpose from his MPLADS funds.
The BJP MLA visited the library along with library committee member Aripirala Narayana Rao and librarian Venneti Satyannarayana. He said the regional library would be developed as one of the knowledge centres in Rajamahendravaram to benefit the future generations
He said that though the 130-year-old library enjoyed regional status, it was not developed on a par with other regional libraries in the State. After Mr. Muralimohan made the gesture, they started trying to mobilise donations both from within the State and outside to construct the new buildings. The student community stood to gain most from the library, he added.
Steps would be taken to provide furniture and other amenities. All efforts would be made to preserve ancient palm leaf manuscripts in the library, he said.
