Deadline may be extended for 2nd phase of debt relief

Andhra Pradesh government is tentatively considering extending the time to enable the farmers submit required details for the second phase of Debt Redemption scheme.

Disclosing this here on Monday, Agriculture Minister P.Pulla Rao said 43 lakh farmers would have to submit their details - Aadhaar number, ration card and pattadar pass books. A final decision on extending the date would be taken on January 7. The government earlier set January 8 as deadline for giving complete information to be eligible for the loan waiver scheme.

In the first phase, government released 20 per cent of outstanding crop loan repayment dues into accounts of 20.79 lakh eligible farmers who submitted all details.

Special drive

The government proposed to organise a special drive from January 7 to 12 to help the 43 lakh farmers update their crop loan accounts with the required information to cover maximum farmers in the second phase of Debt Redemption scheme. 

New State Level Bankers Committee Convenor Durga Prasad also assured that the banks would also extend their cooperation to the farmers and the government for updating their records in the given proforma, Mr. Pulla Rao said.
