DA increased for AP government staff

The 5.9 % increase will entail an additional burden of Rs. 1,485 crore on the ex-chequer

Dearness allowance (DA) for government employees and pensioners has been enhanced by 5.992 per cent effective from January 1, 2012, in line with the increase in price index indices.

A decision sanctioning the hike was taken by the State Cabinet at its meeting here on Friday convened by Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy after a 100-day gap. The increase will benefit 10 lakh-odd government employee and 5.5 lakh pensioners and placing an additional annual burden of Rs 1,485 crore on the ex-chequer.

Information Minister D. K. Aruna told reporters that the Cabinet resolved to undertake admissions in the IIITs at Basar, Nuzvid and Idupalapaya based on performance in Class X examinations as a petition was pending before the Supreme Court challenging the previous method of admissions.

It ratified the recent decision taken by the Chief Minister scrapping the allotment of iron ore mines in Khammam and Warangal districts to Rakshana Steels as also the new Excise policy . By a resolution, it cleared the proposal to amend the AP Municipal Corporations Act of 1994 to introduce uniform service rules for employees working in 13 major corporations in the State.
