The CPI(M) has called upon its rank and file to stage protests along all national highways and in front of all gram panchayats in the State on May 12 and 13 demanding disbursal of drought relief, CPI(M) State council member T. Shadrak and district secretary K. Prabhakara Reddy said on Saturday.
Input subsidy of Rs. 400 crore was not released to farmers of drought-hit Kurnool district in 2014-15 and 2015-16 owing to the negligence of the State government and public representatives, they alleged in a media conference here.
Neither public representatives nor officials made a mention of drought relief or drinking water woes at the Kurnool ZP meeting, they lamented.
The Statewide protests on May 12 and 13 were also to demand mitigation of drinking water scarcity and proper implementation of employment guarantee scheme, they asserted. As many as six to seven lakh persons migrated from Kurnool district and clearance of wages of NREGS workers amounting to Rs. 25 crore were pending, they said.
Accusing the YSRC of miserably failing to play the role of Opposition, the CPI(M) leaders said the party MLAs rarely spoke about drought relief and water scarcity. Nearly 100 persons died of sunstroke. The party leaders would meet District Collector Ch. Vijayamohan on Wednesday and discuss the issues with him. CPI(M) district secretary B. Ramanjaneyulu also took part.
