The Communist Party of India (CPI) will lodge a complaint with Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan over the rampant excavation of sand illegally in the district and its transportation to neighbouring States, party district secretary G. Easwaraiah has said, blaming the nonchalant attitude of the administration for the malpractice.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Mr. G. Easwaraiah alleged that despite the TDP-led government brining in a stringent sand policy, the party leaders were excavating sand illegally and transporting it to Chennai and Bengaluru in the night to which the district administration had been turning a blind eye.
Sand mafia was ruling the roost in Penagalur, Rajampet, Nandalur, Vallur, Kamalapuram, Jammalamadugu, Proddatur and Chennur mandals, resulting in depletion of groundwater level and water scarcity, he pointed out and accused Collector K.V. Ramana of not initiating action, though several representations were made to him.
He also dared the TDP leaders for debate on the allegation that that the Chief Minister was discriminating against Kadapa district.
