CPI (M) launches signature campaign for road project

June 01, 2014 10:07 pm | Updated 10:07 pm IST - BHIMAVARAM:

The CPI (M) launched a signature campaign here on Sunday with an appeal to the government to take steps for completing the pending bypass road project.

The Roads and Buildings Department has taken up a project for laying bypass road from Undi to Kumadavalli with an estimated cost of Rs. 20 crore to ease traffic flow in Bhimavaram town.

The proposal intends to help in diverting the vehicular traffic on the Eluru-Bhimavaram road from Undi to Kumadavalli, a few kilometre away from the town on the other side, enabling the vehicles bound for Palacol and Tanuku to reach their destinations without touching Bhimavaram.

Gopalan, secretary of the CPI (M) town committee, said government funds worth crores went into the drain due to the lack of coordination between the railways and the R&B Department. He said the issue would be taken up with the local MP, Gokaraju Ganga Raju, seeking his help in prevailing over the railways to revisit its decision with regard to providing a level crossing and making the road project operational.
