The Prakasam Police achieved a breakthrough in a case related to the death of a 24-year-old carpenter from Nellore and arrested a co-worker of the deceased, here on Thursday.

Ongole Deputy Superintendent of Police G. Srinivasa Rao told the media that Hamid, the carpenter hailing from Ethamukala, was found dead near Kothapatnam and a case of death under suspicious circumstances was registered by Sub-Inspector B. Narasimha Rao.

The post-mortem report revealed that Hamid was choked to death, with beach sand entering his lungs. When the police was interrogating the co-workers of Hamid, one of them, Sultan, confessed to have committed the murder.

Sultan, who had a dispute with Hamid on money matters, clubbed the latter with a wooden log.

He had forced down the head of Hamid on the sand, resulting in the latter’s death owing to asphyxiation, Ongole II Town Circle Inspector P. Deva Prakaar told the media.
