With the temperatures soaring people are looking at various options to beat the sweltering heat wave conditions in Karimnagar district.
People have stopped venturing out during the afternoon and even if they were forced to go out, they are protecting themselves from the blistering heat waves by covering their face with masks and wearing caps. But, for the people living indoors, it is time for them to protect from heat by using the coolers.
Shops selling coolers have started making brisk sales from the middle of March and the sales peaked since one week. K Srinivasan of KG Digital Electronics at the busy Madina shopping complex in Karimnagar said that the sales had increased compared to last year. He said that he was selling on an average 200 coolers daily. He said that the people preferred local brands because of cost and easy replacement and repairs locally.
Majority of people were not going for branded coolers because of high cost. Only some elite sections of society, who usually possess ACs, were purchasing the coolers to use them in verandahs and other places of their house. Middle class sections are going for low-cost coolers the dealers say.
Odelu of Yellabotharam village on the outskirts of the town said that he had purchased cooler for Rs 2,500 as it was affordable when compared to branded product. “We are forced to buy coolers as there is no other way to protect from heat wave”, he maintained.
