Congress leaders on Thursday targeted the J.C. Diwakar Reddy family for leaving the party, at a meeting got up on the occasion of the ‘Bus Yatra’ entering the Anantapur district.

Speaking at the meeting, former Union Minister Chiranjeevi said that the Congress had brought fortune to the Rayalaseema region, which he said would be the major beneficiary of the ‘special status’ accorded to the State of Andhra Pradesh.

“We shall ensure that an Information Technology corridor comes up in Anantapur district to take advantage of the spill over of IT jobs from Bangalore ,” Mr Chiranjeevi said.

“If Chandrababu Naidu is so confident of winning the election as he says, why he needs Congress leaders to win the same election,” APCC president N Raghuveera Reddy said. How can Mr. Naidu who had called Diwakar Reddy a murderer in the past allowed him into the party and how could Mr Reddy join the TDP, leaving all ethics to wind, he wondered.

Kurnool Special Correspondent adds: The bus carrying a galaxy of Congress leaders from Seemandhra including Central Ministers, former State Ministers and PCC president rolled into Kurnool today. The leaders addressed a public meeting at Municipal open air theatre. Mr. Chiranjeevi termed the exodus of former Congress Ministers to other parties as a sad episode but said the cadres considered it good for the party and for them as well because for the first time, the genuine worker of the Congress would be getting an opportunity to contest the election.

APCC president N. Raghuveera Reddy said they embarked on the mission to boost the morale of the party workers and also explain the ground realities to them. He expressed satisfaction the first leg of the tour that helped them establish rapport once again with the cadres and said would soon announce the next programme.

Union Minister of Railways Kotla Jayasuryaprakasa Reddy said Congress alone was wedded to social equilibrium in the country. He said the party was likely to nominate a minority candidate from Kurnool Assembly.

Party leaders Anam Ramnarayan Reddy, MP Subbarami Reddy, and others were present.
