While the political parties and their representatives across the country are increasingly seen becoming Twitter-savvy, the leaders of our cosmopolitan city somehow seem more comfortable with the conventional form of connecting with the voters.
While many do not even have a Twitter account, a few others have just entered the social media bandwagon ahead of the polls. The city Congress MLA’s seem to be truly following their leader Rahul Gandhi in this regard, as the Congress Vice-President is yet to enter the Twitter world.
The areas of Madhapur, Gachibowli and Kondapur may be housing exotic IT parks and a large population of corporate professionals but the MLA of this constituency, Bhikshapathy Yadav is hardly tech-savvy. The Serilingampally MLA does not have a twitter account but rather a Facebook page replete with mostly pictures of party meetings.
Similarly, P.Vishnuvardhan Reddy is the public representative of the constituency which identifies itself with the rich and famous. The Jubilee Hills MLA too did not try too hard to be on Twitter.
However, there are also some who made a dash just ahead of elections.
For instance, Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender had recently become active on twitter. But with just over 200 tweets, his followers are yet to touch even 50.
Secunderabad MLA and actress, Jayasudha and Sanathnagar MLA M.Shashidhar Reddy seem to be shade better when it comes to being pro-active on Twitter as both have followers just above 500.
Exceptions
In complete contrast to the Congress leaders is BJP MLA G. Kishan Reddy who seem to be seriously endorsing brand Modi in the latter’s way.
Mr. Reddy’s Twitter handle has more than 30,000 followers and more than 6,000 tweets.
Beating all the above leaders is the lone MLA of Lok Satta Party, Jayaprakash Narayan. The former bureaucrat and MLA of Kukatpally, has a whopping 1.6 lakh followers on his Twitter handle.
