Farm sector is in deep crisis and unemployment increased, says CPI leader Raja

CPI national secretary D. Raja on Sunday said the Congress should embark on self-introspection to face the emerging situations and challenges in the country’s political sphere.

“A strong Congress with a pan-India impact, along with other secular parties, is the need of the hour to face the Modi-led BJP government,” he said.

Addressing the media here prior to attending a meeting organised by the Congress on the Special Category Status (SCS) in Guntur on Sunday, he said the issues concerning the Congress were its internal matters.

“All the Opposition parties met under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi to discuss the presidential candidate. As many 17 parties took part in the meeting to identify a person with secular credentials,” he said.

It was the responsibility of the ruling party to take a call on the presidential elections, he said, and added: “As the BJP is silent over the issue, we met and elicited the opinion of other parties.”

Mr. Raja termed as “misrule” the three years of the Modi government. The promise of providing two crore jobs was not fulfilled. The agriculture sector was in deep crisis and farmers’ suicide had increased owing to the prevalent drought conditions. “Unemployment has increased and the IT sector is in a mess. All the pubic sector units are gradually being privatised and the Modi government is more beneficial to the corporate houses,” he said.

‘RSS taking centre stage’

Mr. Raja said the RSS had taken the centre stage and was reversing all the decisions taken by the previous government. He said, “Its main focus is to push forward the communal agenda and establish a Hindu Rashtra.”

He said a people’s movement was the need of the hour as the Constitution was at risk.

“Both Parliamentary and secular democracies are at risk under the fascist regime in which decisions are taken unilaterally by one person – the Prime Minister,” he said.
