Chittoor district achieved a giant leap vis-à-vis computerisation of judiciary, when the video linkage facility was inaugurated in the Tirupati Court Complex on Friday by Justice Vilas V. Afzulpurkar, Judge, High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad for the States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, who is also the portfolio judge for Chittoor district.
As part of the pilot project envisaged by the High Court to modernise the institution under the guidance of the Supreme Court’s e-committee, 37 places were identified to link prisons with court houses.
Extension of remands
The Tirupati facility is only the second in the two Telugu-speaking States, while the first was launched a month back at Madanapalle, also in Chittoor district. The facility will initially be put to use for extension of remands, while it will be extended for recording evidence and addressing arguments in future. The system facilitates participation of witnesses, such as experts or officials, from their places of convenience.
“The system obviates the need for the State Government to transport the prisoners from jail to court and will be a great relief from the avoidable ordeals faced by the staff of prisons department. Similarly, it will also save much of finance to the State exchequer,” said Justice Afzulpurkar, after inaugurating the facility. The larger idea is to ensure timely disposal of cases and reduce pendency.
District and Sessions Judge, Chittoor, T. Anand, 4th Additional District Judge S. Nagarjuna and Third Additional District Judge P.V. Rambabu were among the participants.
