Captain of the industries and people of the district are eagerly waiting for the new government of Andhra Pradesh to reveal its policies pertaining to industrial development along the coastline of which Srikakulam district shares 190-km stretch.
The experts and locals feel that the Chandrababu Naidu government should develop ports in Kalingapatnam and Bhavanapadu which were proposed long ago. With the lack of the required opportunity, fishermen are increasingly migrating to other States like Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Andaman in search of greener postures, the say.
MigrationEstimation says over 5.5 lakh people out of the total 25 lakh migrant population from the district had left the district due to poor growth in all sectors.
President of Mining Engineers’ Association of India Arjeth Bagchhi said that the new Chief Minister must concentrate on exploration of natural resources and revive coast-based industries for rapid development in the State.
Bottlenecks“Industrialists are facing many difficulties in taking up mining activity in the coastal belt owing to rigid rules and legal complications. Mr. Naidu should give eco-friendly industries a boost to create employment opportunities,” he said.
Trimex Sands Private Limited’s spokesperson and head of the liaison department N.L. Rao felt that proper utilisation of natural resources would improve the economy. “Srikakulam’s true potential has not been tapped all these years. People should extend their support to non-polluting industries so that they don’t have to migrate to far-off places in search of employment,” he added.
