Moved by the harrowing experience narrated by a child trafficking victim, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu promised her appointment as an anganwadi teacher and a fixed deposit of ₹5 lakh in her name.
The girl, who covered her face with a scarf, recounted that while studying in ninth standard, she was jilted by a lover who sold her for ₹35,000 in Hyderabad and subsequently landed in a brothel house in Mumbai.
Speaking in the public meeting in the presence of Nobel Peace Prize winner Kailash Satyarthi and Mr. Chandrababu Naidu in Kurnool on Tuesday, she recalled that she managed to escape with the help of a customer, came to Banaganapalli and decided to commit suicide, when a policeman intervened and later admitted her to Swadhar shelter home through ICDS officials.
The girl who said she completed SSC and wanted to study Intermediate, sought more teeth to the Acts and their effective implementation. She requested the police to curb girl trafficking in Kurnool and Nandyal and act sternly against traffickers.
Mr. Naidu assured steps to curb trafficking in the State.
The Chief Minister also announced fixed deposit of ₹5 lakh in the name of another girl who was raped by her father.
The girl of Gudumbai Thanda in Orvakal mandal, who was freed from child labour, said she passed fourth standard from the Andhra Pradesh residential school, directly passed SSC and was working as an ANM. She said her three brothers had settled as a sub-inspector, police constable and a teacher.
M. Syamala Devi, an orphan who was a drop-out after first standard, said she was studying seventh standard in the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayam.
