Union Minister for Tourism K. Chiranjeevi on Tuesday assured farmers that he would pressure the government to enhance compensation amount to all rain-affected farmers. Already, the government increased the amount per hectare crop loss from Rs. 2,000 in the past to Rs. 10,000. Mr. Chiranjeevi, who interacted with farmers at Gujjangivalasa in Gurla mandal along with Ministers Botcha Satyanarayana and Kondru Murali on Tuesday, said the compensation of Rs. 10,000 per hectare announced by the government was the highest in the country. However, keeping in view the distress condition of farmers he would strive to get the compensation amount enhanced.
Fortunately, the crop loss in the district was lesser when compared to other districts, Mr. Chiranjeevi said and added that survey of crops damaged was in progress. Once the survey was completed, the government would disburse the compensation amount, he added.
A number of farmers and people in the village and surrounding areas mobbed him to have a glimpse of the actor. Later, he left for Srikakulam by road.
