: Former Congress MP Chinta Mohan on Sunday took upon himself the task of conducting the centenary celebrations of veteran communist leader ‘Comrade’ Harkishan Singh Surjeet. Calling Surjeet a statesman par excellence, Dr. Mohan called it the first ever meeting in the country to pay tributes to him.

The event, organised at Ambedkar Bhavan, recalled the nostalgic moments of Surjeet through his photographs with E.M.S. Namboodiripad, Jyoti Basu and other communist veterans.

Speakers paid rich tributes to him by recalling his unstinting efforts in forming the UPA government. Dr. Mohan hailed Surjeet’s strategy of aligning with the Congress to tackle the bigger evil of saffronisation.

Leaders of Left parties hail it as a bold move
