After 22 hours since the rescue work started at Manchal in Ranga Reddy district to save four-year-old Girija, who fell into an abandoned borewell, those digging a parallel trench to reach the 45 feet depth required, reached the desired level.
The team consisting of about a half-a-dozen men specialised in drilling got into the act. They got into the 45 feet sloping trench and put their drills to use, boring into the earth is what was envisaged as a wide circle at around the depth where the child was suspected to be stuck. Police had a tough time controlling the crowd and none but the rescue workers and officials were roped off and kept off the immediate operational area.
Ibrahimpatnam MLA Manchireddy Kishan Reddy, District Collector N. Sridhar, Joint Collector-II (Ranga Reddy), Revenue Divisional Officer K. Yadagiri Reddy and Dr. O. Srinivas Reddy, apart from dozens of rescue workers and a 100 policemen witness the operation.
As each hour passed, post-noon, people started to feel the disappointment set in. What experts were cautious
Even around 3.30 p.m., the situation was pretty much the same and the specialist drillers and experts from the National Disaster Relief Force were conferring between themselves and also seeking outside help.
