Child marriage thwarted

April 05, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - ONGOLE:

The marriage of a 8th class girl student with a 22-year-old youth was stopped at Kandukur on Saturday, thanks to timely tip-off provided by her classmates to the Childline India Foundation.

The schoolgirls called the toll free 1098.

Immediately social activists from Childline India Foundation NGO partner HELP and ICDS officials thwarted the marriage fixed by the girl’s mother.

The latter wanted to conduct her first daughter’s marriage after her husband left her and her three children in the lurch, HELP social activist B.V.Sagar said.

The girl was admitted to the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalya (KGBV) school to continue her studies.
