Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu sprained his left leg after falling off from a make shift staircase at Kolakaluru village in Tenali Rural mandal on Thursday afternoon. The injury to the leg forced Mr. Naidu to suspend the ongoing Vastunna Meekosam padayatra, in which 2,000 kilometres covering Andhra Pradesh has been completed on Wednesday. Mr. Naidu is recuperating in his bus based on the advise of his doctors.

The incident took place minutes after Mr. Naidu addressing a gathering at the village centre, was climbing down a pedestal where statues of B.R. Ambedkar, Jagjeevan Ram and N.T.Rama Rao were installed. As he was climbing down from a make shift wooden staircase, students of a local school swarmed around him for autographs. The staircase crumbled under the weight and Mr. Naidu slipped off. But security guards caught hold of Mr. Naidu and helped him to stand on his feet again.

Former minister A. Rajendra Prasad who was following Mr. Naidu too fell and appeared dazed for few minutes. He was taken to a hospital.

Mr. Naidu resumed his walk for a few yards before he complained of severe pain. Doctors applied oil and massaged his leg. The walk has been suspended for time being.
