Chain-snatcher gang busted

Special police teams, led by Superintendent of Police Ghattamaneni Srinivas, on Friday evening busted a five-member gang of chain-snatchers on the outskirts of Madanapalle town and recovered 600 grams of gold ornaments, an SUV and four motorbikes, all worth over Rs. 25 lakhs.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Mr. Srinivas said that Rachampalle Srinivasulu (34) of Velamaddi village of Nallamada mandal of Anantapur was an inter-State burglar, wanted in various crimes in Rayalaseema districts and Bengaluru. He had committed over 100 chain-snatchings in both the states, carrying on him several pending police warrants.

He came out of Kadapa Central jail on bail in June 2015. Since then, he formed a gang with four members and intensified chain-snatchings. The second accused, Johanson, an Armed Reserve Constable in Kadapa district and currently under suspension. He has been associated with Srinivasulu since 2011 and faced suspension twice earlier. The third accused is Gorava Erriswami (24) of Ayyavaripalle of Raptadu mandal of Anantapur. Two others are juveniles below the age of 18.

The modus operandi of the gang is to thoroughly observe the surroundings of lonely localities and target women, after watching their movements. The nabbed were produced in the designated court, which remanded them to custody at Chittoor jail.
