CCTV cameras to be installed in all prisons in AP soon

State releases ₹10 cr. for the purpose, says IG

AP Prisons Department will be soon embarking on an ambitious project of installing CCTV cameras in over 100 prisons including central prisons, district prisons and sub-jails to monitor the activities of the prisoners. The government has already released ₹10 crore for the purpose said IG of prisons G Jayavardhan.

Talking to the media on the sidelines of the Retreat-2017 of the Prisons Department at Central Prison in Visakhapatnam on Thursday, Jayavardhan said tenders would be called and all measures are being taken to install the CCTVs at the earliest.

Psychologists

The department also decided to depute professional psychologists in all the four Central prisons in Visakhapatnam, Rajahmundry, Kadapa and Nellore in the State on outsourcing basis to help prison officials to handle inmates who develop psychological problems, said Mr. Jayavardhan.

“We have sent a list of 200 prisoners in various prisons in AP to government and recommended for the remission of sentence,” he said.
