Cash incentives to AU medal winners

Sportspersons of Andhra University, who had won medals in the all-India inter-university competitions, received cash incentives from the university on Tuesday.

Vice-Chancellor G.S.N. Raju handed over cheques for Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 10,000 to B. Usha, who won gold medal in the 48 kg category in weightlifting and silver medal in the 52 kg category in powerlifting in the all-India inter-university weightlifting and powerlifting meet for women, conducted by Jalandhar University, Pathankot, during January. Usha won bronze medal in the 48 kg category in weightlifting competition in the 35th National Games held at Kerala recently.

Prof. Raju also handed over cheques for Rs. 6,000 each to the members of university’s men’s team which secured gold medal in the all-India inter-university badminton tournament conducted by Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, from December 31, 2014 to January 2, 2015.

AU team members S. Balu Mahendra, G. Gopi Raju, T. Hema Nagendra, S. Aravind, S. Naveen, M. Arjun Reddy and K.P. Chaitanya received the cheques.

Director of Physical Education M. Syam Babu and weightlifting coach R.V.L.N Ratnakara Rao were among others present.
