Case registered against 2 under Nirbhaya Act

March 19, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:52 am IST - VIZIANAGARAM:

The Vizianagaram rural police on Wednesday registered cases under the Nirbhaya Act against two persons whose alleged harassment led to an SSC student of Malyada village in Nellimarla mandal committing suicide on March 7. “The incident would have remained a secret had not rumour of involvement of the two youth in the incident spread in the village,” Inspector (Rural) Ravi Kumar said.

He added that a juvenile had video-graphed the student using a mobile phone and handed it over to Mylapalli Mahesh and Kandi Ramesh.

Since then, the duo had been blackmailing her. Unable to bear the harassment, she committed suicide by hanging, the Inspector said.

Her parents were unaware of the motive behind their daughter’s suicide. They lodged a complaint with Nellimarla police who registered a case under the Nirbhaya Act.

DSP (SC/ST Cell) K. Krishna Prasanna is investigating the case.
