A three-member Capital Committee on Saturday visited Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU) campus in Guntur district for establishing a few government departments on the university premises on a temporary basis.
Apart from School of Distance Education building, the three-member team, including Guntur Collector Kantilal Dande and others inspected a few under-construction structures like EEE building on the campus.
According to university authorities, the committee members visited the campus for establishing offices of agriculture, education and other departments on the campus for a couple of years.
They informed the university authorities that, if any buildings were identified and finalised, they would also take up minor changes in the structures to suit the requirements of departments. University authorities said the government would be hiring the buildings on rent. However, there was no discussion on the rent to be paid and other terms and conditions with the visiting panel members.
It was a holiday for the university, except for a few departments, which were conducting post-graduate examinations. It is learnt that the committee members, who arrived at the ANU campus at around 9 a.m. would also visit other government offices and buildings in Guntur and Krishna districts.
The team’s visit bears significance at this juncture as a Cabinet Sub-Committee has a few days ago approved the decision to establish Capital in Guntur district. The government plans to pool 30,000 acres in 17 villages of Mangalagiri and Tullur mandals of Guntur district.
