Capgemini, the global leader present in over 40 countries with a headcount of nearly two lakh, may consider setting up a development centre in Visakhapatnam.
Forecasting a bright future for the city to emerge as a technology hub owing to its strategic location, beachfront and valley and well-developed educational institutes, Capgemini India CEO Kandula Srinivas told The Hindu on Thursday that, at the appropriate time, they would consider establishing a development centre here.
Mr. Srinivas earlier held talks with Special Chief Secretary and IT Adviser to Chief Minister J.A. Chowdary. They were addressing a national meet on skill development at GITAM University.
Consolidation
He said their company, a French multinational with headquarters in Paris and revenue of 12.54 billion Euros in 2016, was now consolidating its centres due to transition faced by the IT industry as a result of emerging new technologies.
Visakhapatnam is the largest city in Andhra Pradesh with an IT turnover of ₹ 2,000 crore. It is home to big companies including Tech Mahindra, Wipro, IBM, Concentrix and WNS. “Right now there is no proposal to locate a development centre in Visakhapatnam. The State government is also keen on developing IT in a big way. In future, the city will remain on top of our list for new investments,” he said.
Mr. Srinivas said Hyderabad became a prominent IT hub after two decades of launching Cyber Towers. “Vizag with a robust industrial base and good connectivity is emerging as a new hub in A.P. . I am certain it will also become one of the prominent IT hubs as it has all the ingredients to stake claim as an ideal destination for investors.” d. He said there was good scope for technology companies in Internet of Things, artificial intelligence and machine learning, analytics and blockchain technology.
