The Andhra Pradesh State Cabinet during its meeting on November 16 will discuss the G.O. No.97 and the bauxite mining issue, Minister for HRD Ganta Srinivasa Rao informed reporters here on Thursday.

Answering repeated questions at a press conference, Mr. Srinivasa Rao said that the Government had utmost concern for the welfare of Girijans and would respect their feelings which are genuine, important and serious in nature. "We don't force it on the Girijans", he added.

He accepted that he himself had fought against bauxite mining proposal in the past and is concerned about the welfare and development of the Girijans. Asked why the State Government has issued the GO in spite of the Girijans strongly opposing the bauxite mining proposal, he said that the Centre had cleared the (environmental) proposal in a fast track mode and the GO was issued accordingly and repeated that the Cabinet would discuss whether to go ahead with the GO or not.

He conformed Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu's visit to the city on November 19 during which he would inaugurate the Agarwal Eye Hospital at 4 p.m., a museum set up with the help of the World Telugu Federation atop Kailasagiri at 5 p.m. and the World congress on disaster management at 6 p.m. Mr. Naidu might stay overnight and in that case he would inaugurate a national medical conference on the morning of November 20 and proceed to Kadapa.

If he not staying here on November 19 night, Mr. Naidu would fly to Vijayawada late in the evening and proceed to Kadapa from there on the morning of November 20.

The annual Visakha Utsav would be conducted from December 25 to 27 and the Araku Utsav in the Agency on the same dates.

The VIMS would be made functional from around December 1 with 100 beds and a proposal to involve the PSUs in its development would be discussed during the November 16 Cabinet meeting. Efforts would be made to involve the PSUs in improving and maintaining some established Government hospitals like Ghosha Hospital in the city.

Main road widening

A proposal was discussed with the local MLA to widen the main road, from Jagadamba Junction to old Head Post Office to at least 60 feet. The MLA would discuss with the owners of buildings that had to be removed on the method of compensation.
